Beşiktaş have grabbed their first victory in the Atatürk Olimpiyat Stadium against dark horse Medipol Başakşehir on matchday 4 of the Spor Toto Super Lig 2015-2016 season.
The Black Eagles wanted to win their final game before their first European match against Skenderbeu this Thursday and did this with a 2-0 scoreline in a very good game. Mario Gómez was the big man with a brace, which were his first goals in Turkey.
The German striker scored the opener after roughly 15 minutes into the game. Goméz did a step-over at the edge of the box and got the ball behind goalkeeper Babacan with a powerful diagonal shot in the right corner.
He could have repeated this 5 minutes later with another shot from just outside the box, but this time Babacan had an answer to his effort and pushed the ball to a corner kick.
It was just the beginning of many good chances for Beşiktaş, while Başakşehir couldnt create a single chance in the entire first half. José Sosa got past his man, inside the box and tried his luck but his shot was blocked twice by the defence.
Oguzhan Ozyakup, who suffered a minor injury during training this week and wasnt completely ready, was subbed of at half time for Necip Uysal.
Başakşehir didnt impress in the second half either. They started taking more risk and gaveBeşiktaş a lot more space in defence, but it didnt result in a lot of good chances for the club from Istanbul. Doka Madureira took a shot after a long run but it went wide of the right post.
Beşiktaş took advantage of the space Başakşehir gave away in a counter. Sosa played a long ball in front of Töre, who shook off the man marking him and went straight at one defender ofBaşakşehir . Töre then passed the ball in front of Gómez who sent goalkeeper Babacan into the wrong corner, scoring his second goal of the game.
The Black Eagles now had a comfortable lead, but forgot to kill the game completely, wasting many good opportunities. Başakşehir almost got back into the game, but Tolga had 2 great saves up his sleeve. He firstly pushed a good and powerful strike of Visca to a corner kick and had another good save after a shot from Mehmet Batdal after a corner.
Olcay didnt play a good game and was subbed off for Ricardo Quaresma. In a very good counter attack Quaresma missed a glorious opportunity, the ball was cleared off the line. The Portuguese player did however put up a very good attack later on. Töre, who played an amazing game and was arguably the best man of the match, got past 3 man of Başakşehir and crossed the ball to the right side of the pitch to Quaresma. He got past his man as well with a lovely step-over and crossed the ball towards Gómez, who headed the ball but missed the empty goal.
The German wasted another good chance in the final minutes of the game. He had some good combinations with Dusko Tosic, who finally put Gómez up against the goalkeeper but the striker shot it right at Babacan.
The game ended with a 2-0 score and this win puts our Black Eagles temporarily at a joint first place with Antalyaspor with 9 points. However rivals Fenerbahçe are playing later tonight. A good win right before an European game, but Şenol Güneş will definitely have something to say about the many wasted chances.
